About the Event

Bridget Jones's Diary meets Americanah in this disarmingly honest, boldly political, and truly inclusive novel that will speak to anyone who has gone looking for love and found something very different in its place.

Queenie Jenkins is a twenty-five-year-old Jamaican British woman living in London, straddling two cultures and slotting neatly into neither. She works at a national newspaper, where she's constantly forced to compare herself to her white middle class peers. After a messy break up from her long-term white boyfriend, Queenie seeks comfort in all the wrong places...including several hazardous men who do a good job of occupying brain space and a bad job of affirming self-worth.

As Queenie careens from one questionable decision to another, she finds herself wondering, "What are you doing? Why are you doing it? Who do you want to be?"--all of the questions today's woman must face in a world trying to answer them for her.

About our RSVP fee.

All of our events are free, but we do have a small RSVP to hold your place. If you are unable to pay the fee, please put "QUEENIE" into the coupon code upon check out. But please be aware if you do, and you are a no-show without notice you will not be able to use a code to bypass in the future. We input RSVP fees to retain organisation, whilst operating a relatively chilled and relaxed environment.

All the no-show fees go directly into our Street Child fund with 100% of the donations going to help children in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Nepal, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, and Uganda. To find out more about this amazing charity head to www.street-child.co.uk If you wish to make a larger donation please contact them directly or visit https://www.street-child.co.uk/donate if you do not wish to donate the fee, please leave the box unchecked in your registration.

When children are given the chance to learn, they have a chance to break free from poverty. They have a chance to build a brighter future for their families, their communities and their countries. Every child deserves that chance.

Thank you.
