About
Country woman, poetry acolyte and duppy conqueror, versed in fiction and claat. Lived abroad yet settled at home in Jamaica, in the shark's mouth. Focused on the union of aesthetic and ethics (see Toni Morrison), I am primarily interested in writers who are stylistically daring and politically acute.
Some recent favourites:
The Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin
The Taiga Syndrome by Cristina Rivera Garza translated by Suzanne Levin & Aviva Kana
Love, Anger, Madness by Marie Vieux-Chavet translated by Rose-Myriam Rejouis & Val Vinokur
I, Tituba by Maryse Condé translated by Richard Philcox
The Pain Tree and Other Stories by Olive Senior
The Confessions of Frannie Langton by Sara Collins
The Old Drift by Namwali Serpell
What It Means When a Man Falls From the Sky by Lesley Nneka Arimah

Four Souls by Louise Erdrich
Some overall favourites:
Swann's Way by Marcel Proust translated by Lydia Davis (Why didn't she translate it all? :'|)
Dreamtigers by Jorge Luis Borges translated by Mildred Boyer and Harold Morland
Everything by Olive Senior, even what I haven't read yet

When I'm not reading (or on bookstagram) I'm at sea, art exhibitions, and concerts nestled in hill sides.
